About the tutor:
Katharine is a fashion designer & dressmaker based in Forest Hill. Working on a bespoke and made-to-measure basis, Katharine produces garments for her own fashion label, as well as individual commissions for Film, Events, Editorial and performance.
Trained in Fashion Design at the University of Brighton and as a pre-apprentice in Bespoke Tailoring with Savile Row, Katharine worked and trained under fashion labels such as Anderson and Sheppard, Marchesa and Katharine Hamnett before side-stepping into corset making with period costume makers and film studios Sands Films in Rotherhithe. Here she worked most recently on a corset for Carey Mulligan in ‘Far from the Madding Crowd’ which provides some inspiration for the featured corset on this course. Other films include Bright Star, Annonymous and The Young Victoria where she has made corsets, mens tailoring and accessories. Katharine also teaches pattern cutting and garment construction at Middlesex University on the fashion and textiles design course.
With a playful approach to design, Katharine enjoys the fun of the stage and the poetry of the film set. Inspired by period patterns and design details alongside traditional tailoring and dressmaking techniques, Katharine produces cinematic and joyful pieces that bring both laughter and style to your wardrobe.
