Beginners Tambour Stitching – Saturday 7th October 10am – 1pm £65
Learn the basic stitch of tambour embroidery, traditionally associated with French couture. There is only one stitch to master in tambour embroidery. Instead of a needle, a very fine, sharp hook is punched through a tightly stretched fabric to catch a fine thread from beneath and draw it up, creating a linked, chain-like stitch.
You will learn how to work the hook through the fabric, following a pattern and how to start and stop. Once you finish stitching your design you will then be shown how to finish the back of a hoop neatly making it ready for display.
We will discuss: a brief history of tambour stitching, the best materials to use, different ways of transferring a pattern onto the fabric, different ways of finishing the back of a hoop making it ready for display or as a gift
Zuzana is a London based designer/maker working with fiber and textiles.
Her work is heavily influenced by tradition and traditional crafts.
Coming from a rich cultural background she found an early interest in embroidery that she then developed further through a degree at the London College of Fashion. Interested in the value of human labour in our mechanized world, craft remains at the core of her practice.
Embroidery is the main focus of her work; re-purposing traditional craft techniques into contemporary designs, with geometry being an endless source of inspiration. She creates embroidery artworks of varying scales as well as accessories from her studio in SW London, blurring lines between art and craft. Each piece takes days, weeks or even months to complete.
