Easter Baskets- Saturday 24th March 10am – 12:30pm £45
Join us for a creative Saturday morning making rope bowls with textile and fibre designer maker Zuzana Lalikova. Emerging yourself in the traditional technique of rope coiling you will make two small handy baskets out of cotton piping cord and decorate them as you please with pom poms, trimmings and/or acrylic paint.
Basic sewing machine skills are be helpful during this workshop (see our Learn to Sew class) but not necessary as Zuzana will be able to help.
Zuzana is a London based designer/maker working with fiber and textiles.
Her work is heavily influenced by tradition and traditional crafts.
Coming from a rich cultural background she found an early interest in embroidery that she then developed further through a degree at the London College of Fashion. Interested in the value of human labour in our mechanized world, craft remains at the core of her practice.
Embroidery is the main focus of her work; re-purposing traditional craft techniques into contemporary designs, with geometry being an endless source of inspiration. She creates embroidery artworks of varying scales as well as accessories from her studio in SW London, blurring lines between art and craft. Each piece takes days, weeks or even months to complete.
