Knitting with Beads – Sunday 7th October – 1pm – 4pm
Make a small beaded item with knitwear designer Jennie Atkinson. Have you ever wanted to add beads to your knitting but thought it was too complicated? Then this is the class for you! Using beads in your knitting can add colour, texture and design interest in an endless variety of ways.
Knitting with beads is very easy when you know how, and once you have learned the methods in this class, you will be able to add beads to anything you knit, enabling you to make your knits completely unique.
The class will show the various methods of adding beads in the process of knitting. You will then have the chance to starta small item using materials supplied – or your own if preferred.
We will discuss the types of yarn and beads that are most suitable to use; and placement, colour, size and design of the beads. We will then plan a design for a small item using graph paper.
The class will include –
a. threading the beads onto the yarn
b. knitting the slip stitch method with beads on yarn
c. ‘bead’ or ‘purse’ knitting method – a bead on every stitch
d. adding beads as you knit using a crochet hook.
e. designing using beads
f. some bead knit history!
Level: for those of you who are already comfortable with knit and purl
What to bring: All materials are included feel free to bring your own material if you wish.

About the Tutor: Jennie has worked for many years as a successful knitwear designer – making hand- and machine knit garments to sell in her own as well as other shops worldwide; and more recently designing for well-known yarn companies and magazines. She has published 2 books of designs, Beads, Buttons and Lace(Rowan 2006) and A Handknit Romance (Interweave 2011)
Jennie has used beads in many of her designs and enjoys experimenting and developing new ideas.
Jennie also has an MA from the Royal College of Art and has studied the history of fashion and knitting.
