Cyrus’s recent work

Cyrus is passionate about using materials with a sense of history. He particularly likes the scars left by Victorian plumbers and the warmth in colour of the  reclaimed wood he uses  ‘They don’t grow it like they used to!’ He is a versatile designer and educator, taking  on commissions for furniture, interiors and landscape as well as designing and delivering projects for young people. The project in the pictures below, with the boat shaped deck, is an on going regeneration project on an estate in Charlton. His greatest strengths as a designer are his knowledge of the  materials he is designing with and his understanding of the people who shall be using and living with his creations, both things he feels are fundamental but sadly overlooked in much contemporary design with to much emphasis on being ‘clever’. This way of thinking can lead to many objects/spaces being poorly constructed and unpleasant to use, at great cost to our well being and the environment.
